Email Access in General

  1. Every customer will be given a free email id like username@dataone.in in P2.2 network and username@bsnl.in in Multiplay network.
  2. Mail box capacity is 5 MB and Mail can be accessed using web client (Internet Explorer etc.) & mail client (Outlook Express etc.)
  3. Visit http://dataone.in (P2.2 customers) or http://mail.bsnl.in (Multiplay customers) for Web client access.
  4. Mail client configuration for Email address having domain @dataone.in
    1. Incoming Mail Server ( POP3) : smma.dataone.in / 218.248.240.55 / 218.248.240.95 / 218.248.240.245
    2. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) : smra.dataone.in. / 218.248.240.53 / 218.248.240.93 / 218.248.240.243
    3. The option “My server requires authentication” should be selected.
    4. Account name must be “username@dataone.in”
  5. Mail client configuration for Email address having domain @bsnl.in
    1. Incoming Mail Server ( POP3) : smma.bsnl.in (or pop.bsnl.in) / 218.248.240.10 / 218.248.240.71 / 218.248.240.201
    2. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) : smra.bsnl.in (or smtp.bsnl.in) / 218.248.240.76 / 218.248.240.206 / 218.248.240.12
    3. The option “My server requires authentication” should be selected.
    4. Account name must be “username@bsnl.in”
  6. General Information
    1. Mail client will work only if the connected ISP is BSNL. External incoming mail services can be accessed by adding email accounts. But BSNL mail account must be the default one. SMTP Mail relay is not allowed. Irrespective of ISP, Web client can be used.
    2. Some of Mail clients are Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Netscape Messenger, IncrediMail, Evolution and Eudora etc.
    3. Maximum attachment size is 1MB and Maximum number of recipients is 10.

Outlook Express configuration – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Open Outlook Express.
  2. Click “Tools” - “Accounts…” - “Add” – “Mail”.
  3. Type a name to display. BSNL Ernakulam. Click “Next”.
  4. Type Email Address bsnlenk@dataone.in. Click “Next”.
  5. Incoming mail Server must be “POP3” – Type Incoming Mail Server as smma.dataone.in.
  6. Type Outgoing Mail Server as smra.dataone.in. Click “Next”.
  7. Type account name as bsnlenk@dataone.in
  8. Type Password as your password.
  9. Click “Next”. Click “Finish”.
  10. Select the created mail account. Click “Properties”.
  11. Click “Servers”. Select “My server requires authentication” option.
  12. Select “Settings”. Select “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” option.
  13. Click “OK”. Click “OK”. Click “Close”.
  14. Your mail account is configured now.

Microsoft Outlook configuration – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. Click “Tools”. Click “E-mail Accounts…”.
  3. Select “Add a new email account”. Click “Next”.
  4. Select “POP3”. Click “Next”.
  5. Type “Your Name” as BSNL Ernakulam.
  6. Type “Email Address” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in
  7. Type “User Name” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in
  8. Type “Password” as your password
  9. Type “Incoming mail server (POP3) as “pop.bsnl.in”.
  10. Type “Outgoing mail server (SMTP) as “smtp.bsnl.in”.
  11. Click “More Setting…”. Click “Outgoing Server”.
  12. Tick “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”.
  13. Ensure that “Use same settings as my incoming mail server” option is selected.
  14. Click “OK”.Click “Next”. Click “Finish”.
  15. Your mail account is configured now.

Eudora configuration – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Open Eudora.
  2. Click “Tools”. Click “Options…”
  3. Click “Getting Started”.
  4. Type Real name as Your Name or Company’s name.
  5. Type “Email Address” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  6. Type “Mail Server (Incoming)” as “pop.bsnl.in”.
  7. Type User Name” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  8. Type “SMTP Server (Outgoing)” as “smtp.bsnl.in”.
  9. Tick “Allow Authentication”. Click “OK”.

IncrediMail configuration – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Open IncrediMail.
  2. Click “Tools”. Click “Accounts…”. Click “Add”.
  3. Select “Let me configure settings myself” option. Click “Next”.
  4. Type “Your name is:” as BSNL Ernakulam.
  5. Type “Your email address:” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in. click “Next”.
  6. Select “My incoming mail server type is:” as “POP3”
  7. Type “Incoming mail server:” as “pop.bsnl.in”.
  8. Type “Outgoing mail server:” as “smtp.bsnl.in”. lick “Next”.
  9. Type “Username:” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  10. Type “Password:”. Click “Finish”.
  11. Click “Properties” of the selected mail.
  12. Click “Servers” tab.
  13. Tick “My server requires authentication” option in “Outgoing Mail Server” section.
  14. Click “More Settings...”
  15. Select “Use same setting as my incoming mail server” option.
  16. Click “OK”. Click “OK”. Click “Close”.

Evolution configuration – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Open Evolution.
  2. Click “Edit”. Click “Preferences”.
  3. Click “Mail Accounts”. Click “Add”. Click “Forward”.
  4. Type “Full name:” as “BSNL Ernakulam”.
  5. Type “Email Address:” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  6. Tick “Make this my default account” option. Click “Forward”.
  7. Select “Server Type:” as “POP” and type “Server:” as “pop.bsnl.in”.
  8. Type “Username:” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  9. Tick “Remember Password:”, if you desire. Click “Forward”. Click “Forward” again.
  10. Select “Server Type:” as “SMTP” and type “Server:” as “smtp.bsnl.in”.
  11. Tick “Server requires authentication” option.
  12. Type “Username:” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  13. Tick “Remember Password:”, if you desire. Click “Forward”.
  14. Type “Name:” as something to refer to this account (optional).
  15. Click “Forward”. Click “Apply”. Click “Close”.

Thunderbird Ver 2.0 configuration – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Open Thunderbird.
  2. Click the “Tools” menu and select “Account Settings...”
  3. Click “Add Account...” button to launch Account Wizard.
  4. Select “Email account” and click “Next”.
  5. Type “Your name:” as “BSNL Ernakulam” as you would like it to appear in the From: field of outgoing messages.
  6. Type “Email Address:” as bsnlenk@bsnl.in.
  7. Click “Next”.
  8. Select “POP” as the type of incoming server you're using and enter the server information as follows,
  9. Incoming Server: pop.bsnl.in and Outgoing Server: smtp.bsnl.in
  10. Enter your full email address in the format bsnlenk@bsnl.in in both the “Incoming User Name:” and “Outgoing User Name:” fields, then click “Next”.
  11. Enter “Account Name:” as a name to refer this account. Click “Next”. Click “Finish”.

Gmail Account configuration in Outlook Express – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. Enable POP in your Gmail account in www.gmail.com. Don't forget to click Save Changes when you're done.
  2. Information needed to configure Mail client are as follows
  3. Type of Incoming mail Server : POP3
  4. Incoming Mail Server : pop.gmail.com
  5. Outgoing Mail Server : smtp.gmail.com
  6. Type account name as bsnlenk@gmail.com
  7. Select “My server requires authentication” option in Outgoing Mail server section.
  8. Check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” under “Outgoing Mail (SMTP)”.
  9. “Outgoing mail (SMTP)” port is “465”
  10. Under “Outgoing Mail (SMTP)”, check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”.
  11. Under “Incoming mail (POP3)”, check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”.
  12. “Incoming mail (POP3)” port is “995”

Yahoo Mail Account configuration in Outlook Express – (Information in Italics changes according to customer)

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Click the "Add" button.
  4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
  5. In the text box labeled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."
  6. In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
  7. Under "My incoming mail server is a…" select "POP3."
  8. Type "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.
  9. Type "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
  10. Click "Next."
  11. In the Account Name box, type your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
  12. In the Password box, type your Yahoo! Mail password.
  13. If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, check the "Remember password" box.
  14. Do not check the boxes labeled "Log on using Secure…"
  15. Click "Next." Click "Finish."
  16. Select 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com' under 'Account,' and click 'Properties.'
  17. Click the “Servers” tab.
  18. Under “Outgoing Mail Server” check the box next to “My server requires authentication”
  19. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
  20. Under “Outgoing mail Server (SMTP)”, check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL). Enter port number “465” in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP)” field.
  21. Under “Incoming mail (POP3)”, check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". The port number in the “Incoming mail (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn’t, make sure the port number is set to 995.
